Okay, so just how, exactly, DO you update what you have? What should you be wearing right now? Baby it's cold outside! How do you stay warm, comfy, and stylish all at the same time?
Here are Marcia's suggestions to refresh your tired old clothes:
- Take advantage of online clearance deals. Find a new winter car coat to throw on with jeans. A new coat is practical and will cover up tired clothes underneath. A sure way to look cute and polished. Check out http://www.macys.com/. Take an extra 25% off clearance items. There are some cute winter car coats. Classic looks. Amazing deals. A new coat for $50-75? That's a must. Buy a new scarf and tie it correctly. Take both ends and place over your front like a "U." Next, take both ends (at the same time) and loop them through.
- Find bright-colored cardigans to throw on over tanks or thin long-sleeved tees. There are some cute things on clearance at http://www.jcrew.com/. Cute cardigans in bright colors. We saw a photo of some useless Hollywood starlet with a canary yellow cardi over a royal blue dress. You can definitely transition these sweaters to spring/summer.
- Jan's best friend, Sheila, also suggested buying the ultra-thin, long-sleeved t-shirts and layering them under short-sleeved tops. She's right on. From http://www.thesoko.com/:
"A common mistake that throws some people off the concept of layering is that it can get bulky. The fact is, layering only gets bulky if you don't know what you're doing! Try layering with lightweight fabrics, such as a long sleeve cotton top under a camisole and blazer. This way you can get more mileage out of your summer tops and you can keep your arms and chest warm without the bulk."
How to you layer long-sleeved shirts over short-sleeved shirts? Three rules:
- The key is to find the tissue-thin tee. Like this. There are tons of these at Express for less. You want a round-necked style--but the neckline should be low. No 3/4 sleeves. Long sleeves only.
- Okay. We need to be specific here. Don't layer short sleeved tee's over long-sleeved tees. That's for juniors. And unless you are very, very thin--this style won't do anything for your figure. It's too tight and your arms will look like sausages. Try a looser, more stylish top like this.
- Go for a thin-knit sweater to bring the bulk factor down. A pointelle texture is ideal. Look for an A-line shape with loose sleeves. Try this bargain ($24.80) from Forever 21. This is perfect over a thin tee. Buy it big. They run very small.
Hope these ideas give you a little inspiration!
